MGR Film City
Location: Tharamani Area, Chennai.
The bonny villa where most of the South Indian films were pictured now stands closed. Located on the Tahramani area of Chennai, it poised élan to captivate fans onscreen and off-screen. Escalating on 70 acres, the M.G.R Film Studio took its name from former actor-turned-Chief Minister, M.G. Ramachandran. The state-of-the-art film city, the MGR film city was constructed for Kollywood — the thriving film industry in South. This made-to-measure film city was established in 1994 to commemorate the versatile and veteran actor M.G.Ramachandran.
The film city was postured on the designs and lines of Mumbai Film City. It is architected with a film school, locations for indoor and outdoor filming, reduplication of temple, church, post office, police station, prison and courtroom, sizeable chunks of urban areas and gardens fashioned after Italian, Japanese and Mughal manners. The conspicuous film city was remarkably known to add attraction quotient to the city with its attractive entrance. It was one among many of Chennai studios which opened up to access of visitors. M.G.R used to be a special delight in Chennai for Tamil cinema fans.
